And outpost wars are HUGE events with dozens of people, which is chaotic and fun. You'll definitely see a dozen or so folks running into any major town, and in the wilderness there may or may not be folks around, depending on where you are. It's not a heavily populated game but there are enough players that it doesn't feel lonel. There's a TON of roleplaying, and it's not uncommon for people to interact only in-character - I got an incredible set of gear from a random RP in the wilderness. The game heavily encourages player interaction (you must get gear from other players as all good gear in the game is player crafted, the only way to get to other ecosystems at lower levels is to have someone trek you there the first time so you can get teleport pacts, etc.), but the morons are rare, unlike something like WoW. There's very little chatspeak, and everyone is helpful and nice. Unlike most games, the player base is, by and large, not stupid. It's very satisfying to gain small things, like one new stanza that will be really useful to my digging, or to get a couple extra levels so I can pick up some stat boosts.

There's also somewhat of a feeling, at least for me, that it's not all about being the biggest badass in the game. there are some views that are just breathtaking, and it's a beautiful game to look at. Atys is a richly-textured world with tons of different areas to explore, all with interesting critters, plants, scenery, etc. It's a sci-fantasy world, with a very unique and interesting ecosystem, mythology, and culture. counterparts (which may use up certain amounts of hitpoints or focus or stamina, etc.), so you can tweak things exactly to your play style and liking. All done based on the amount of points different action features (called stanzas) cost vs. There is no overall level whatsoever - you level in individual skills as the skill trees branch off, so you can be level 250 at swordfighting and 150 at fighting with axes, and only 70 at using range weapons.Įverything you do is based on little bits of actions, so you can customize all your interactions with the world.

but if I want to go out and level up some fight and magic at some point, I can, and then go back to foraging. You're not stuck with one class or set of skills, but can gain levels in any area of the game at any point simply by going out and doing that - my character is pretty weak in fighting and magic but is great at foraging in the desert and crafting. It's different than anything I've ever played.
